The indiscriminate exploitation of chemicals in the agricultural fields and blind discharge of industrial wastes to the water streams in the form of toxic and hazardous pollutants such as dyes; heavy metals; phenols; pesticides and pharmaceuticals etc.poses serious environmental problems to the food materials and water bodies, as both are directly linked to the survival and physiological necessities of humans and other living creatures. Most of these pollutants do not degrade and tend to biomagnify in humans and animals through food chain. Hence there is a need to remove these pollutants from water and food materials. Adsorption process is considered better than the methods like Membrane process,Ion exchange,Electrodeposition,Xanthate process etc.due to its simplicity,universal nature,low cost and ease of operation. The chapters in this book will comprehensively elucidate different methods for the sequestration of heavy metals & organic pollutants, experimental assessment of pollutants in waste water & fruit juice and the use of novel adsorbents. This book will generate interest amongst the students,teachers and researchers engaged in environmental studies and research.

Dr.Firoz Ali Ansari received his B.Sc & M.Sc degree in Industrial Chemistry from AMU and Ph.D. in chemistry from JMI. He received the 2015 NASI-Swarn Jayanti Puraskar and passed 2012 UGC-NET.Dr.Masood Alam is Professor in chemistry since 2004 and has 30 years teaching experience at JMI. He is life member of Indian Society for Technical Education.
