Always ask how you would design a solution if no current solution existed.The intention of this research is to identify the relationship between sustainable construction material selection and the project cost. In this regard, the importance of sustainable practices, its impact to the built environment and various sustainable practices explored in order to achieve cost effectiveness.This report represents a range of options related to material selection that can be adopted for construction projects. Moreover, focuses through the cost effect on the project, sustainable material selection and especially the life cycle impacts on the environment of some major materials used for building elements.

Inthusha Srisknahdrajah, is a Quantity Surveying Graduate working in the same industry for last 3 years in Sri Lanka. After completing the Higher National Diploma in Quantity Surveying studies, she went through a undergraduate top up programme at University of Wolverhampton, UK.
