Sustainable development deals with integration and growth such that benefits are obtained for the widest range of sectors and between generations. Undoubtedly, our actions today will have a significant impact on future generations and reduction of energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases is an overarching societal goal. This volume presents a number of research endeavors undertaken in Sweden, Europe and the United States of America towards sustainability within the built environment. Particularly, aspects related to predicted challenges for implementation of sustainable building measures and set strategies for their mitigation in the built environment are discussed and a number of approaches recently undertaken in the aforementioned regions are highlighted.

Dr. Navid Gohardani is a holder of Ph.D. and Licentiate degrees in Civil and Architectural Engineering, as well as M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering and Built Environment from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. He has further earned a M.Sc. in Business Administration and is an International Welding Engineer, IWE.
