Beschreibung
Seaweeds of Goa Coast presents detailed information of seaweeds from Goa. It is a result of three-year seasonal survey done along the entire coast of Goa. Seaweeds form a vibrant group in the algal kingdom. The vivid colors and elasticity of the benthic marine algae marks it apart from the rest of the groups. Algae from both marine and estuarine influenced locations are presented along with details on their structure, habitat, and seasonal occurrence. Most of these species are known for their industrial applications as well as ecological significance. The algae are grouped on the basis of their taxonomic hierarchy. Of the 155 species of seaweeds recorded herein, 70 species form new reports for Goa. Exercise to form new species has been avoided with the belief - there is always one of its types found elsewhere in the world. New records found in this study have not been assigned a separate taxonomic status as those species were found to be similar to those already present in other global locations. This book will equip readers with information on marine algal flora from the tropical west coast of India.
