This book is very helpful for cosmology researcher, specially for doing research on dark energy. Now it is well established fact that there is an acceleration of the Universe. Earlier the reason was thought it may be for the cosmological constant term only, but now a days dark energy has become the potential candidate to explain the acceleration of the Universe. Dark energy and dark matter constitutes of about 95 % constituents of the universe. This book deals with the k-essence theory and its consequences to explain the acceleration of the Universe.

Dr.Somnath Mukherjee did his Post Graduation in Nuclear Physics from Presidency College (Calcutta University) and Ph.D in Theoretical Cosmology from Jadavpur University. His research interest lies on the role of dark energy in the acceleration of the Universe.
