Alchemically three elements are important. Sulphar and is inflammable signifies fire and the holy spirit. It represents the expansive force. Mercury which is volatile represents air and the mind. Mercury was thought to transcend life/death and heaven/earth. Salt (sodium chloride) the third element represents the body or earth and water. It represents the force of condensation and contraction. According to the alchemist each metal is made from a specific ratio of sulphar and mercury and metals can be transmutated. The endosymbiotic archaea is capable of biological transmutation and represents the three elements. Metals can modulate neurotransmission, immunity and metabolism and transmutation could be a mechanism for endosymbiotic archaea to regulate the human system. The actinidic archaea can mediate biological transmutation, biological fission and fusion reactions and can be considered as the philosophers stone and elixir of life.
