Transverse discrepancies warrant special consideration in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Determination of the underlying cause of the asymmetric or symmetric transverse problem must be an important ingredient in the process of formulation of an appropriate treatment plan. It is equally important to determine the relationship of the transverse discrepancy, which often have a significant impact on designing a treatment strategy. The management of transverse discrepancies has been universally recognized as one of the most challenging aspects of orthodontic therapy.
