Accurate diagnosis of a malocclusion and the implementation of the treatment modality forms the essence of orthodontics. This is in combination with patient-specific mechanics to achieve a stable result. Malocclusions in the vertical plane are manifested as deep bite and open bite. They are the most common conditions, and yet, the most difficult to treat. To correct these types of malocculsions, intrusion mechanics come to the fore. Diverse treatment options are available ranging from utility arches, intrusion arches, headgears, surgical methods to the more recent mini-implants. The intricacies associated with the various intrusion mechanics have been elaborated.
