Stains are chemical substances used to achieve visible colour contrast in the microscopic picture of a prepared tissue. Though Haematoxylin and Eosin remain the gold standard in histopathology, they cannot detect the presence of specific tissue structures or substances or allow a more detailed morphological evaluation of these components and their distribution within a specimen. Therefore, alternative staining techniques are used for their detection, named special stains. Special stains have their own importance in research and in diagnosis.This book is a collection which includes different stains used for viewing different artworks of various tissues under light microscopy. It contains stains used for connective tissue elements,carbohydrates, lipids, amyloid, microorganisms, nerves cells and fibres, pigments and metals, bone.
