Immunohistochemistry (IHC) involves the process of selectively imaging antigens (e.g. proteins) in cells of a tissue section by exploiting the principle of antibodies binding specifically to antigens in biological tissues. From a modest beginning Immunohistochemistry has now expanded beyond expectation. It is no longer in domain of exotic investigations but it is routinely used tool in diagnosis of various pathologies. A basic knowledge of the subject is now mandatory so that the procedure can be carried out in small working places also.
