The word forensic comes from the Latin forensis, meaning "of or before the forum."Forensic deals with the study of the body, usually dead, the quiet scientific assembly of the evidence it bears, and the construction of reasonable inferences based on these observations cannot fail to give interest and satisfaction. The last area of the forensic specialties recognized by the American Academy of Forensic Science is forensic odontology. Forensic odontology, or forensic dentistry, is one of the most unexplored and intriguing branches of forensic sciences, and its scope broad and ever-challenging. Forensic odontology has established itself as an important and often indispensable science in medicolegal matters and in particular in identification of the dead.
