Dentine hypersensitivity can be a particularly uncomfortable and unpleasant sensation affecting the quality of life of patients significantly. For few, it may represent only a minor inconvenience but for many the degree of discomfort and emotional anguish can be overwhelming. The ultimate goal in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity is the immediate and permanent alleviation of pain with restoration of the original impermeability of the dentinal tubules. The successful management of dentine hypersensitivity is often very challenging for the dental professional. The ideal desensitizing agent is yet not known. Conclusive evidence of successful treatment regimen with 100% efficacy remains elusive. Despite a multitude of products available for treatment, no product represents the gold standard in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity. Consequently, clinicians approach must be based on the available evidence and professional experience to create a successful outcome. This book attempts to bring to light the various desensitizing treatment modalities with special emphasis on desensitizing materials to help clinicians offer their patients effective, long lasting solutions.

Dr. Suma R is a clinician and an academician currently working as a senior lecturer at CODS, Davangere, India. She has completed her BDS and MDS as a college topper with numerous awards. She was chosen as one of the finalists for the Young Achiever Award (PG) 2014 conferred by the Indian Academy of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (IACDE).
