Psychiatric settings present added obstacles to smooth medication administration, particularly due to the increased vulnerability of patients. Few studies have investigated medication administration systems within the psychiatric setting. The objectives of this study were to propose improvements aiming at strengthening and increasing the efficiency of the medication administration systems currently practiced at a state psychiatric hospital and to decrease issues occurring as a result of administration errors and non-compliance to the established protocols and guidelines.

Nicola' Xuereb completed her Bachelors in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2015 and her Master of Pharmacy in 2016. The focus of her post-graduate dissertation being the administration of medication in the psychiatric setting.
