This is book must be read by those who want to understand absorption, distributions, metabolism including drug interactions, excretions, side effects or toxicity and its mechanisms and the mechanisms how psychotropic drugs (especially mood stabilizers and anti psychotics produce their effects, their indications and preference for special groups) at the grass root level. The book has six chapters. The first chapter illustrate about pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynmics which points out mechanisms of actions or pharmacological effects of major drugs. The second chapter includes common neurochemical transmitters which are involved in patho- physiologic mechanisms of common mental disorders. The third and fifth chapter illustrates briefly about schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder and bipolar disorders mainly about etiology, epidemiology and diagnosis based recent DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Chapter four and six includes details of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers including history, types, pharmacokinetic and pharmocodynamic mechanisms,indications, drug interactions, side effects toxicity and treatment in special populations.

Getinet Ayano is a chief psychiatry professional, lecturer, training and mhGAP coordinator at Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital Research and Training department, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He received undergraduate and post graduate from University of Gondar. He conducted and reviewed numerous researches. He lectures and courses base psychiatry.
