Andreas Sturm is Professor of Medicine, fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and head of the Department of Gastroenterology at the German Red Cross Hospital Berlin, Westend, an academic teaching hospital of the Charité. His medical career has involved extensive work in gastroenterology, including a research fellowship at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He served as president of the IBD working group of the German Association for Digestive and Metabolic Disorders and member and chair of the scientific committee of the European Crohns and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) as well as member of the National and guideline committee of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG). He is a founding member and was first speaker of the German IBD Study Group (GISG). He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Competence Network IBD. Dr. Sturm gained the Board certification for Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nutrition (DifE) and Proctology and is certified for GI oncology (DGVS) and IBD (DGVS). He has more than 100 scientific manuscripts and book chapters published in several international journals and served as a reviewer for numerous journals and organisations. He invented and started the first German IBD nursing course in 2008, still running successfully since then. Lydia White is the IBD Nurse Consultant at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford; starting the service in 2007. She completed her Masters in Advanced Gastrointestinal Nursing and Adult Education at Kings College London and Oxford Brookes University and Prescribing qualifications by 2015. Lydia has been involved in IBD nursing at regional, national and international levels in project work and teaching engagements. Lydia has been part of several guideline groups and served on the Nursing European Crohns and Colitis Organisational (NECCO) board for a term. While in New Zealand on a three year career break (2017-2020), Lydia set up local IBD nurse services while working with the national group to establish role consensus and achieve an expanded prescribing scope. Now back in Oxford, she continues to support IBD Nurse development nationally and internationally. She is the Royal College of Nursing national secretary (UK) and speaks or consults in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Antipodes; again involving valued international colleagues in this second edition of the IBD Nurse Manual.
