Kelsey Harrison's studies through massive data collection and analysis showed that under the harsh living conditions in Northern Nigeria (exceptionally high maternal and perinatal mortality, severe anaemia, adolescent births, endemic malaria, obstetric fistula) formal education by changing existing social attitudes holds the key to improvements in maternal and perinatal health. This book can therefore help to inspire the new generation to work towards bringing about genuine improvements in overall living standards, and to work even harder to cut out high maternal mortality, and rid the region of obstetric fistula.
Autorenporträt
Kelsey Harrison, an obstetrician and gynaecologist trained at University College Ibadan and University College Hospital London. He taught variously at University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University and University of Port Harcourt where became the vice chancellor. His work on childbearing under adverse socioeconomic conditions won universal acclaim.
