This book focuses on temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction using total joint replacement, which is currently the standard therapeutic approach to TMJ disorders. The book provides a comprehensive overview of current knowledge on this topic and treatment strategies for individual cases. The authors of the book are renowned TMJ surgeons with extensive experience in TMJ reconstruction. The book is divided into four parts. The first part deals with the anatomy of the jaw joint, indications and contraindications for jaw joint reconstruction, and defines standard and custom prostheses. The second part deals with patient preparation for surgery and the surgical procedure for TMJ reconstruction. This chapter covers the use of TJR in conjunction with orthognathic surgery, the use of TJR in patients with ankylosis, TMJ tumors, and the use of TJR in pediatric patients. Vladimír Machon is a renowned surgeon specializing exclusively in temporomandibular joint disorders. He is a founding member of the European Society for Temporomandibular Joint Surgery (ESTMJS). Dr. Machon is known for his contributions in this field, having published numerous articles and lectures on TMJ. Dr. Machon has performed more than 480 TMJ reconstructions using total joint replacement. This extensive experience has not only cemented his reputation in the field but also allowed him to encounter and resolve a wide range of complications associated with TMJ surgery.
