Khalid F. Tabbara, MD, is Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Medical Director of The Eye Center and The Eye Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology, Riyadh. He is also Chairman of the Scientific Board of Ophthalmology, Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), Riyadh and Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at The Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. Dr. Tabbara served as an Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology for 32 years and as President of the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG), Paris, France from 1996 to 2000. He is Founding President of the Arab Board of Ophthalmology and served as President from 1994 to 1998. Dr. Tabbara has received many awards during his career, including from the Pakistani Ophthalmological Society, the Saudi Ophthalmological Society, the Pan-Arab Council of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and The International Organization Against Trachoma. He was the Founding Editor and former Editor-in-Chief of the Saudi Journal of Ophthalmology and is an advisory member of various leading journals. Dr. Tabbara is the author of over 350 scientific publications and the author, co-author, or guest editor of many chapters and books. Ahmed Mokhtar Mohamed Abu El-Asrar, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. El-Asrar has been an investigator and co-investigator of various research proposals in diabetic retinopathy and has been an invited speaker and lecturer at many international meetings and courses. He is an Associate Editor of the Saudi Journal of Ophthalmology, the Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology and International Ophthalmology. Dr. El-Asrar is a member of the International Uveitis Study Group and Saudi Arabia representative on the International Council of the International Ocular Inflammation Society. He is the author or co-author of more than 140 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Moncef Khairallah, MD, is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Monastir, Tunisia and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital, Monastir. From 2000 to 2004 he was Director of the Tunisian residency program in Ophthalmology and in 2005 he received an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is an Expert Member of the Vision and Hearing Loss Expert Group (Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study Group; GBD Study). Dr. Khairallah has participated in various international collaborative studies and trials and has been an invited speaker at many international meetings and courses. He is a member of the editorial board of International Ophthalmology and Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology and is a reviewing editor for Ocular Immunology and Inflammation. He is a member of the executive boards of the International Ocular Inflammation Society and the Society of Ophthalmo-Immunoinfectiology in Europe and an elected member of the International Uveitis Study Group and the Club Jules Gonin. Dr. Khairallah is the scientific co-editor of three previous books, he has authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 50 book chapters.
