This book explores the lived experience of acquiring hearing impairment. Drawing on Phenomenology and Constructive Grounded Theory it offers a model for preserving the social identity while adapting to acquired hearing loss. The text also offers insight into the individuals' experience of consulting audiology services, and gives suggestions for implementing and developing person centred aural rehabilitation.

Dr Christine DePlacido worked as an Audiologist in the NHS for 30 years before moving to Queen Margaret University Edinburgh.She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Speech and Hearing Sciences with research interests in Humanistic Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Technology. She is also a Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser and qualified Counsellor
