For over 50 years, a myth discredited both Bruno Bettelheim and a psychodynamic approach to autism. The myth of the "fridge mother" has left the soil of science and questioned the expertise of scientists for no reason at all. The consequences are and were 50 years of standstill in autism research, but also in the development of support programs for autistics.
