This book is targeted for medical and life science students. This would help the readers to become aware of the spread and control of infections transmitted from animals. Approximately 75% of recently emerging infectious diseases affecting humans is diseases of animal origin. Many factors like environmental changes, human and animal demography, pathogen changes and changes in farming practice lead to the emergence of zoonotic diseases. Social and cultural factors such as food habits and religious beliefs play a role in the emergence of zoonotic diseases.

Dr.B.N.Selvakumar is currently working as Reader in Microbiology in a dental college in Kerala. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience and Mycobacteriology is his expertise.Dr.Jasmine Selvakumar is working as Associate Professor in Biotechnology at Bishop Heber College,Tamil Nadu. She holds two patents and has more than 60 papers.
