Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder of the lower gastrointestinal tract that is caused by a variety of possibilities ranging from bacterial infection to environmental situations such as contaminated water. IBS can affect anyone at any time under any circumstance. This study examined how the symptoms of IBS impacted the levels of anxiety, quality of life, and academic performance among Iraqi students studying at the Zakho Technical Institute located in the city of Zakho in Northern Iraq. Findings from this study suggest that 16% of the sample were currently suffering from IBS. A total of 357 students participated in the study. Results from the study indicate a gender difference in how food was cooked and living arrangements.
