Multi-drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is one of the major health threats to mankind all over the world. Despite the initiatives of Stop TB program of World Health Organization (WHO), Health workers, all over the world are not as successful as is expected in preventing and controlling the infections caused by M. tuberculosis. According WHO, India accounts for 27% of worlds new 10.4 million cases and 29% of 1.8 million TB deaths. on 13th March 2017, Govt. of India declared its plans to eradicate the TB by 2025. To achieve maximum treatment and diagnosis success rate in India, Constant surveillance of various epidemiological trends of TB and patterns of drug resistance must be carried out periodically. The author contributions through his research works and writing this book are small contributions towards that goals, of eradication of TB by 2015, set by the Govt. of India.

Acquired M.Sc. Microbiology from the Univ. Deptt. of Pune University of India. Started career as Assistant Professor of Microbiology in a Medical College at Nashik. Awarded Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Pune. Published four research papers in Peer-reviewed Journals. Edited two books; Microbiology and Biotechnology.
