Chronic sinusitis is caused by members of normal flora of our body residing in neighboring tissues. Only when an opportunity strikes, these bacteria assume pathogenic potential. The war between man and microbes continues even inside the body. If we could defeat our indigenous bacterial flora which turns opportunistic or pathogenic when our immunity fails us, we would eliminate more than half the infections! How we wish our bacterial flora always help us!

Dr Shalini Dewan Duggal did her MBBS in 2001 from Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla and MD Microbiology from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak in 2005. She has more than 50 publications in National and International journals and has more than 200 citations. Her main interests are Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
