Summary: Bread & Butter PhysiologyBread & Butter Physiology is designed to serve the needs of students doing their undergraduate courses in physiology, necessary for studies in health services (e.g. nursing, radiography, occupational and physiotherapy, pharmacy, chiropractics, etc.): in biological laboratory technology (e.g. medical, dental and veterinary technology, etc.) and in nutrition, domestic science, dietetics, physical training, biokinetics, first aid, speech therapy, etc.This textbook covers basic cellular physiology, physiology of all the different organ systems including the reproductive system. Relevant anatomical information and a limited working chemical background necessary for understanding the physiological principles and processes are also provided.A substantial effort was made to eliminate unnecessary detail and yet maintain the essential concepts and as such a dogmatic approach was unavoidable. Professor Dirk Hermanus van Papendorp was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1949. He obtained his Medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 1974. He then moved to the Cape Province to continue his studies. He completed his BSc Honours degree (cum laude) at the University of Stellenbosch.
