Operations Research (OR) is a branch of mathematics which is concerned with the application of scientific methods and techniques to decision making problems. The optimum seeking methods are also known as mathematical programming techniques and are generally studied as a part of OR. Stochastic Programming, a mathematical programming technique for modeling and solution of optimization problems with uncertain data parameters, especially when we have random variables with known distributions. An application of Stochastic programming to the optimization of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) data communication networks design.
