This book is a result of a study that was conducted to investigate the use of different Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by Urban and Peri-urban livestock keepers in accessing information on livestock husbandry practices. The book gives a detailed background information on the study, the problem that led to carry out the study and the significance of the study. The book also gives a detailed review of literature on the field of study in addition to the methodology that was used to conduct the study. Furthermore, the book discussed the findings of the study where it gives an insight of the various information needs of Urban livestock keepers in addition to the information sources that they use to access the information. The book also explains the extent of use of different ICTs such as radio, television, mobile phones and the Internet in accessing information on livestock keeping. The author further describes the factors that hinder the effective use of ICTs and finally gives recommendations on how to improve the use of these ICTs in order to improve urban livestock keeping practices and increase production.

The author is a Senior Lecturer at the Sokoine University of Agriculture specialized mainly in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for development. The author is also involved in research and consultancy works and has several publications in international journals in the Information science field.
