This study investigates the aesthetic and influential role of Pudong as an urban environment and as a global model for new metropolitan China, and concludes that this New District missed in the opportunity to build an innovative and inspirational urban model for new urban China. Up to the moment of this research, China continues to experience rapid economic and urban growth without any sign of interruption; thus the study of Pudong will prove its essential value in preventing failures and leading to improvements in future Chinese urban developments.

An architect from Shanghai and currently based in Paris, received doctor of planning degree from Sapienza University of Rome. His research interests include metropolitan China and urban aesthetics studies.
