Nature is heterogeneous. This means, every natural substance consists of finer components co-existing in the same physical or biological environment. Natural water, for example, contains dissolved organic or inorganic materials; juices from plant parts contain a whole lot of dissolved substances; blood is an incredible mixture of water, cells, proteins, enzymes, electrolytes, etc. In order to understand the compositions of natural or synthetic matters, human intellect has been employed in the development of scientific tools and techniques for analyzing the heterogeneity of nature. One of such sophisticated analytical techniques is known as chromatography. Chromatography has become so central in scientific analysis that no aspect of separation studies, whether biological, chemical, agricultural, medical, pharmaceutical, engineering or geological, can be effectively carried out without the deployment of at least one form of chromatography.
