4-Chloro-O-Phenylene diamineand itsCopper (II) complexhave been prepared by theSchiff base formation.The synthesizedcompound was confirmed from UV, IR & NMR spectrum. The O-Phenylene diamine and its Copper (II) complex found to have remarkable antimicrobial activity due to the presence of nitrogengroup.The antimicrobial activities ofthree bactericidalorganisms Bacillus subtilis, StreptococcusviridiansandStaphylococcus epidermidison the test compounds 4-Chloro-O-Phenylene diamine and its Copper (II) complex were screened by employing the Disc Diffusion method. A concentration gradient (500, 1000, 2000and 3000g) of each compound was put into study. From the study, it is observed thatits shows a maximum zone of inbition. 2-hyroxy acetophenone and 4 -chloro -o-phenylene diamine were refluxed in ethanol and the product is 2-[N-(4-chloro-2-{[1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]amino}phenyl)ethanimidoyl]phenolandits complexes were prepared. The product was confirmed byTLC, IR, 1H NMR and UVStudies. The product was subjected to antibacterial activity and it shows a goodantibacterial activity.
