This book examines the underlying causes of animal welfare problems in zoos, safari parks and recreational parks in Indonesia and suggests scientific ways to improve professional standards to upgrade animal welfare. It gives an account of a variety of common problems captive wildlife facilities face in terms of ethics and welfare today. It introduces the basic animal welfare problems while emphasizing the concept of zoo assessments and how they improve welfare standards of captive animals. Therefore this book can serve as an introductory, supplementary and reference text for animal welfare and ethics related courses in colleges and universities.
Autorenporträt
Govindasamy Agoramoorthy is Distinguished Research Professor at Tajen University, Taiwan. He served as Chairman of Ethics and Welfare, South East Asian Zoos Association between 1998 and 2012. He is currently Tata Visiting Chair in India. He has done wildlife field research in all three tropical continents over the last three decades.
