Leather tanneries are serious threat to the environment and one of the major pollutants in the tannery effluent are the synthetic dyestuffs. In view of the recent awareness of the carcinogenicity of some synthetic dyes, they have to be phased out. Natural dyes are an eco-friendly alternative to these hazardous dyes. The book covers all the aspects of natural dyeing. It deals with the optimization of dyeing parameters; with different mordanting agents;colourfastness tests and development of wide range of products. In addition it shows the author's own samples of leather dyed with dyes extracted from onion peel and cutch depicting beautiful green and brown shades.

Dr.Swati Pant specializes in the field of textiles and has completed her Ph.D.degree in Clothing and Textiles in 2012 from G.B.Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar. Currently she is working as Assistant Professor in Amity School of Fashion Technology, Amity University, Lucknow Campus.
