Increase in scientific knowledge provided for by basic research can help resolve some complex societal problems. In the past the availability of scientific knowledge has been reflected in decisive action to resolve such problems. Research is creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of man, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications. The term research refers to search for knowledge. There are many ways of knowing and therefore many ways of approaching research. Research can also be defined to mean scientific and systematic search for pertinent information in a particular specific area. Research is an art of scientific investigation inquiry in search of new facts. Research can be looked at as moving from the known to unknown. Every person has an inquiry mind and therefore every one of us is a researcher. This is a journey that ends up with discovery of new knowledge. In this way we move to make us probe and understand the unknown. The origin of all the knowledge is to have inquisitiveness as a process to be employed by an individual to acquire new knowledge.

I graduated from the UoN with a Honours degree in 1980 in Zoology and Botany. I taught Biology and Chemistry in a number of secondary schools before I went back to class in 2008. I pursued a M.Sc. in Animal Ecology Kenyatta University and graduated in 2013. I've completed my PhD in Climate Change and Adaptation UoN awaiting graduation.
