Beschreibung

Occupational health and safety is a key element in achieving sustained decent working conditions and strong preventive safety cultures. Occupational health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well- being of workers in all occupation. A healthy workforce is vital for sustainable social and economic development on a global, national, and local level. Measures and strategies designed to prevent, control, reduce or eliminate occupational hazards and risks have been developed and applied continuously over the years to keep pace with technological and economic changes. Yet, despite the continuous improvements, occupational diseases are still too frequent and their cost in terms of human suffering and economic burden continues to be significant. Occupational lung diseases are one of the major causes of respiratory morbidity and mortality especially in developing countries where the majority of workers work without proper protection. Occupational respiratory diseases are usually caused by extended exposure to irritating or toxic substances that may cause acute or chronic respiratory ailments. Occupational exposures to dust, fumes, chemicals and gases are associated with increased prevalence of impairment of lung function. Cleaning is one of the high risk occupations which cause different pulmonary function disorders among workers.
