Epigenetics is a rapidly developing science which studies the heritable genetic alterations in the phenotype of an organism without changing the DNA sequence. Epigenetic modifications are produced by three important methods such as DNA methylation, Histone modification and RNA interference. Various advanced techniques are now available to study the epigenetic modifications in the plants and animals. Bisulfite sequencing, DamID and MSAP profiling are most widely used methods to analyse the epigenetic modifications. Current book has given emphasize on the various modifications occurs in genome and the methods to study the variation using the highly automated techniques. Epigenetics has vast range of applications including the biotic and abiotic stresses, genetic diversity studies, better understanding of physiological mechanism, heterosis, yield parameters and also in the QTL mapping. Mr. Ekatpure Sachin has experience in teaching and research on biotechnology and epigenetics. He has done work on molecular markers, disease resistance and transformation of plants. Mr. Ekatpure has awarded by Jawaharlal Neharu University fellowship for masters degree. He has participated various cogresses and symposia on plant biotechnology
