Die kleine Fine lebt mit ihrer Familie weit draußen auf dem Land. Ihr Nachbar ist der Bauer Herr Karl, der viele Milchkühe hat. Eine Kuh mag Fine besonders gern, die heißt Luise. Jeden Tag besucht sie ihre Freundin und bringt ihr frische Kräuter, denn bald wird Luises erstes Kälbchen zur Welt kommen: Max! Als Fine Max und Luise nach der Geburt im Stall besuchen will, fehlt von Max jede Spur.
