The once niche topic of 'football linguistics' has developed into a well-established and rapidly expanding research area in linguistics over the last two decades. The contributions in this volume are based on an interdisciplinary online workshop held in December 2021 and combine linguistics and football in a broad sense. Linguists from all parts of Europe and Africa look at the topic from different linguistic disciplines such as text linguistics and discourse analysis, onomastics, lexicology and corpus linguistics, semantics and semiotics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, pragmatics and conversation analysis, dealing with a wide range of fascinating phenomena such as fan chants, hate and aggression discourses, football terminology and phraseology, gestures or multilingualism in football teams.

Dr. Eva Lavric war Professorin für Romanische Sprachwissenschaft an der Universität Innsbruck und ist dort im Ruhestand Lehrbeauftragte. Dr. Gerhard Pisek ist Assistenzprofessor am Institut für Anglistik an der Universität Innsbruck.
