This book (Supervised by prof Mahmoud Al Khatib) compares the range of epithets used by urban and rural speech communities in Jordan society. It is focused on examining the characteristics of epithets, their motives of existence, their sources, their impact on individuals' accepting or rejecting. The data analysis has shown that immigrations, social habits, physical defects, physical appearance and profession or career are the main motives for the existence of epithets. It has also been shown that, criticism, mocking, teasing, praising and making fun represent reasons for using epithets which they are more common in rural areas than urban areas.
