Volker Leppin explores late medieval piety. The key concepts of "representation" and "reenactment" describe God's presence as a given fact bound to certain places or persons on the one hand or as an active reenactment on the other hand. Based on a broad range of sources, the book introduces a new theoretical approach to the late Middle Ages.
