Beschreibung

In the discourses on the interpretation of time in the Weimar Republic, kairos experienced a unique career. Flanked by satellites such as "the right moment," "fulfilled time" and "the special moment," it enjoyed a string of successes in religious socialism in particular. The fascinating openness of the concept made it very attractive from a linguistic point of view, but it also meant that it was open to a takeover by the intellectual elements connected with the National Socialist seizure of power who wanted to make it their own. Based on a wide variety of previously unknown material from archives, the author studies the role plays of charismatic fighters for different concepts on the stage of political and ethical conflicts between 1919 and 1935. Using texts which had previously gone unnoticed and giving a precise analysis of the various constellations, the author succeeds in giving a clearer, and sometimes surprising, definition of the images of figures such as Troeltsch, George, Barth, Gogarten, Heidegger, Hirsch, Bultmann and especially Tillich.
