Hermeneutics is the scientific study of ancient writings,the principles and methods of studying ancient writings. Prominent among these principles is that of historical criticism which seeks to situate ancient writings within the historical,social,political,cultural background of the author, factors which influenced his writing,his intention, the problem he sought to address, the literary genre he used,etc. In this book the author employed these hermeneutic principles to the study of both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible-the Pentateuch,the historical books, Wisdom books,and the prophetic books,in the Old Testament; and New Testament books-the historical,political and cultural background of the authors(292 pages)

Born in 1944 in Nigeria, professor Joseph I Omoregbe was educated in Gregorian and Lateran universities in Rome, and Catholic university of Leuven,Belgium. He has 3 doctorate degrees in Philosophy, Religious Studies and Theology. He has taught in universities in Nigeria,Swaziland and currently in Lesotho
