Beschreibung

The major question that this book analyze is, Why hasnt India marked its presence in the Global Food market given its an agrarian economy? The book starts by giving a brief overview of Indian agriculture sector post 1991. It further talks about the recent issues related to Food safety and standard and its effect on Indian Exports of agricultural commodities. Given the recent awareness about health and growing concern about good quality food, the international standards set are high which are difficult to match by developing countries, like India. Nevertheless, some developed countries have set the standards higher than the international standards. In this changing global landscape, India established FSSAI, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India with the sole aim to make Indian exports competitive in the world market. This book analyses the effect of Food Safety and Standard Act on three major commodities, Wheat, Groundnut and Cotton, for the period 2002 -2012. Further, mentions the challenges India is facing and will have to face in the future and also gives policy recommendations.
