Nato nel 1944, Duane Altheide ha conseguito una laurea in filosofia (1970) presso l'Università del Colorado meridionale e un dottorato di ricerca in psicologia presso l'Università di Innsbruck (1979). Dal 1980 al 2013 ha lavorato come consulente. Ora è in pensione, passa il suo tempo a leggere e a fare passeggiate nella natura. I libri precedenti sono: Senza Dio, La morte dell'ateismo e Dalla morte alla morte.
