This book focuses on understanding the process of problem construction in oral communication in foreign language contexts, examining how speakers of English as a second language approach issues in oral communication, as well as the strategies they employ to overcome these difficulties. Using theories of general communication, and in particular current approaches to L2 oral communication and strategies in interactional discourse, the authors construct a theoretical framework for defining, identifying and classifying learners‘ problems and coping strategies when speaking English as a second or foreign language. Alireza Jamshidnejad is Associate Professor of English Language Studies and TESOL at the Ministry of Higher Education, Oman. He has two PhDs in English language and Education, and over twenty years of experience teaching and researching English as a Foreign Language, English for Academic Purposes, Language Testing and Applied Linguistics.

Autorenporträt

Dr. Alireza Jamshidnejad is an associate professor of English language studies at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Oman, and has over twenty years of experience teaching and researching TEFL and Applied Linguistics. He obtained his first Ph.D. in Education, but shifted his research interest to EFL oral communication and foreign language teaching in his second Ph.D. from the UK. Most of his recent publications focus on language learners' interaction in EFL contexts, and his unique approach to functions of communication strategies is very well known. After years of teaching, researching and publishing papers in the field of oral communication in EFL contexts, he has innovated a researchbased model to understand the nature of and classify the problems and strategies of L2 oral communication.
