What characterises an Islamic pedagogy? With the introduction of the subject "Islamic Religion" in German schools, the question arises: Are not only "Western" but also Islamic pedagogical approaches relevant for teaching this subject? This series of essays offers the first access to the hardly researched tradition of pedagogical thought in Islam, based on analyses of the Koran and the Hadith. The focus is on the position attributed to the teacher in this tradition.
