History of ELT in India with an emphasis on postcolonial needs is the prime focal point. A call for indigenous ELT theories against the imitation of western theories, use of Quality Management principles as tools and sample case studies form an integral part of the study. The gaps identified with the current practices and remedial measures have been recorded. Market Research by Team Lease services, a recruitment agency based in India has been suportive to the findings of the case studies. The work has necessitated the need to design ELT curriculum with market needs and global demands using two types of action research: intuitive- proactive and rational-reactive.
