Beschreibung

The book presents the findings in a study that sought to investigate factors in urban environment that influence gender equity and academic performance in secondary schools. Data was collected from a sample of six day secondary schools in Eldoret Municipality. Stratified sampling and simple random sampling techniques were used to obtain the required sample size. Pre-testing of the research tool was done to establish the validity and reliability of the questionnaires. The study established that residences with poor environmental conditions as well as students social activities in Eldoret had a significant influence on their school performance. Residences caused a significant difference in the performance of the two genders with female students being more affected than the male students. Other variables such as resources available to students, eating habits, transport and experiences while travelling to and from school were found not to have had any significant influence on their performance. The study recommends a staggered school programmes that would help students study at suitable times to their various socio-cultural situations.
