The premise of this book is based on research conducted in two states of India to understand the status of inclusive education.The gap between the policies and practices is wide and how to bridge that gap is the challenge many educationists face today. India is a country with world's second largest population. The challenges faced here are very different. There is exclusion on the basis of caste, gender, economics and disability. Inclusive education is not a destination but a process. In India inclusive education is following more of an integrated approach. The author in this book highlights the factors that promote inclusion of marginalized children and also brings to light the roadblocks in this journey.

Professor Sujata Bhan is a trained psycho-educationist, clinical psychologist, and teacher educator. With more than 24 years of experience in teaching, administration, and research in Dept. of Special Education, SNDT Women's University, at Mumbai, Professor has contributed significantly in human resource development for children with special needs.
