This book creates ten course syllabi for the needs of teaching Collaborative Piano courses and building Collaborative Piano programs in universities, conservatories, and other institutions of music.The ten course syllabi serve the following courses: Applied Lesson, Degree Recital, Vocal Literature, Vocal Accompanying, Instrumental Accompanying, Lyric Diction, Keyboard Skills, Career Development, Seminar in Vocal Coaching, Chamber Music Literature. The courses aim to identify and address aspects of Collaborative Pianists' skill sets, including: instrumental collaboration and coaching; vocal collaboration and coaching; sight-reading and score reading; basso continuo and figured bass; repertoire building; design of concert program; song translation; lyric diction; style and interpretation; culture and historical knowledge; orchestra reductions; career development; and an understanding of psychology of music collaboration. This book also serves as a resource for those teaching accompanying, coaching, and chamber music. Each syllabus lists class size, class duration, prerequisites, methods of instruction, assignments, projects, grading system, and specific collaborative piano skills.
Autorenporträt
Pianist Nanyi Qiang has established a wide-ranging career spanning chamber musician, vocal coach, soloist, and pedagogue. Dr. Qiang currently teaches at Central State University, OH as an Assistant Professor of Music. He holds a DMA in Collaborative Piano and Coaching from the University of Minnesota.
