The Fondation Beyeler opened its doors for the first time on October 18, 1997 to make the treasures of its collection accessible to the broader public. Little more than twenty years separate that moment from the present, during which time the museum has gained unique renown and a permanent place in the international art world. This is attributable not only to founders Ernst and Hildy Beyelers special capacity to discover and assemble outstanding works of art, but also to the uninterrupted continuation of their collection activity.
